Naruto 646 Review

Hello everyone and welcome to this week's review of Naruto chapter 646 which unlike many previous chapters isn't as action driven and focuses more on dialogue and plot, something I enjoy so much more anyways.

Last week had Obito end the chapter by releasing the Jyuubi and we start this chapter with the Jyuubi apparently reaching its final form which it then uses to drain everyone's chakra including Minato and Nauto's tailed beast forms.

Not used to These types of Tentacles ;)
We finally catch a glimpse of Bee after weeks of him either appearing in one panel doing nothing or just being a complete no show and even then we only see him for one page this chapter. Considering all the things that Kurama can do with Naruto I'd expect a lot more out of Bee now since Naruto can share chakra with the whole Alliance, use massive abilities and he's only using half of Kurama's power, but Bee has been working with the Eight tails for years and he hasn't done half of what Naruto has so its all very confusing to me.

We get to the meat of this chapter which is a long story between Madara and Hashirama on the origins of chakra and how it came to be.

So apparently a long time ago war was widespread and to stop the wars some woman decided to eat a fruit that everyone was forbidden to eat, the fruit granted this woman enough power to end all wars but this power attracted the tree which came to life and tried to get its power back from the woman. Sadly the poor tree was defeated and enslaved by the woman's son who later became known as the sage of six paths.

Personally I gotta wonder, who told the people not to eat the fruit? I mean was it god? was it their ancestors? other than that I think it's pretty obvious where's Kishi's very original inspiration for this story came from, he usually burrows from Eastern stories like how he named the Uchiha techniques ( Amaterasu, Tsukiyomi) and the names of the 3 Sannin are also based on a story and today we get...?

The origins of this story are recorded in the Uchiha tablet so it's assumed Sasuke has read parts of this story since we saw him reading it way back in part 1 when Itachi visited Konoha. I wonder if Sasuke believes the same thing Madara does.

Chakra gave people the power to make larger and greater wars than before in the same way that eating the Apple gave humans emotions which they have used for evil deeds, but just like with everything else it's all in how you use it, we've seen characters use chakra to revive their friends and save their allies while in the real world emotions give birth to love towards others, so while Madara is right here, he's only half right in how he ignores the good things that came from this so called " Curse" Similar to how the Uchiha focus all their emotions on hate when they can use those same feelings for love instead.

The Infinite Tsukiyomi was originally Madara's plan and it's interesting to see him deal with Obito being the one to initiate it, Madara has had his hands full so far with Hashirama and the Alliance but one can bet that he is not too happy with Obito being the one to make this dream world that he wants.

I loved seeing the 2nd Hokage use water techniques, we were told he was the greatest Suiton user in the world so to see some glimpse of that was awesome, but not even his water techniques are enough to save Naruto when he's engulfed by the chakra sucking branches.

After weeks of people speculating where Hiruzen has been he finally shows up and with style, I personally loved the theory that his head had been blown off and couldn't regenerate so he just walked around like a headless zombie but I'm glad instead we get to see him here using his famous Enma summon. This same staff helped him way back when he fought Hashirama so who knows Hiruzen might end up becoming very important in taking down this form of the ten tails.

Mini-rant, How stupid is Juugo's question? I mean I like the character a lot but really you see the Ten Tails reach its final form, start draining people till they are skeletons and you think " Man things are really starting to slow down around here aren't they?".

Rant aside the chapter ends with Obito's gigantic flowery erection blossoming ( some credit goes to Rin I assume) and that's pretty much it, not as much of a cliffhanger as previous chapters but that's fine with me.

Ratings.

I enjoyed this chapter and really loved seeing the return of Hiruzen after so long, gotta wonder where he has been hiding before though but seeing him convinces me that we might also see Kakashi again as well since it's unlikely Kishi will forget him after bringing back the 3rd Hokage.

I liked that this is a slower action chapter compared to most, especially since most of this arc has been very repetitive so this story is fresh and entertaining and unlike most chapters you can't hit reset after this so overall I give this chapter a 4 out of 5 and hope you all enjoyed it as well.

  1. Well, chakra is used....to save people from jutsus, created from the same chakra. That's the problem. Madara thought that chakra don't changed nothing, just became another weapon for mankind to use.
The princess and her son created peace, true. But their descendants brought war.
When Naruto finally die, who can guarantee that peace will continue? Who can guarantee their descendants will fight between them and bring everything back? Such peace can't be eternal.

That's THE TRUTH. A truth that Naruto can't escape. The Eternal Tsukuyomi can bring peace?Yes. But the price to pay is bigger than the suffering of war?

Another thing. If this legend is true(is, after all, just a text) , the Juubi have free will. That thing thinks. His mind is still inside Obito. What will happen when manifest itself?
Because is going to manifest. Hell yeah, you can't hold God in chains using his own eye. No way.

Another thing. orochimaru talked about genocide of the shinobi. At the moment, I thought that he was exaggerating or was a mistranslation, the Alliance was very heterogeneous and was more a case of war than a meticulous program of extermination. But that exactly what the Tree does. It sucks the chakra of every shinobi of the battlefield. it's targeting them, and just them Possibly the samurai and Rock Lee will not be affected, because they're normal people that don't know how to use ninjutsu. But they still manipulate chakra(through gates and their swords), so possibly not. But, if Orochimaru said that, he possibly knows more than we know.

    1. Chakra can be used in many ways, look at the samurais who don't use chakra in the same way and there are probably a lot of killers who can't use chakra. Can't blame the whole thing since Chakra is a lot like science and how you use it is what matters.

The Moon Eye plan brings false peace, which is the same as false love you know? imagine if someone told you you could be happy but you had to be on drugs the whole time, doesn't sound like true happiness to me.

Never thought of it that way, well said indeed, it IS strange to think of them enslaving the ten tails with it's own weapon, wow.

I am pretty sure these guys do use Chakra in some form, Lee can't use ninjutsu like water techniques but I remember in part 1 when he stopped the kick from Sasuke he said " what powerful chakra" plus the gates release Chakra as well I think since they said they release huge amounts of chakra increasingly and give power greater than a kage.

  2. I think I might be the only person that actually likes that the So6P isn't an Uzumaki. Great review though man! I have to ask this though....what I said in your 645 review about Orochimaru being the big bad at the end and having a really fucked up backstory, what are your thoughts? Or now that this Religious bombshell has been dropped into the series do you think that they'll even be a point to Oro?

    1. Very sorry for not replying to that man, I read it right before I reviewed this chapter and I just forgot to reply to you, I do apologize.

It was mentioned though thhat the so6p was a Kaguya and thats the same clan as kimimaro was in, which I find weird infact the whole backstory is strange about the past as it seems to change from one arc to another, at first the sage was the one who gave birth to chakra and ninjutsu but now apparently its his mother who did it.

I always wanted Orochimaru to be the big bad, it makes so much story sense he was the first real villain and it would be great if he was the final one as well, he has always mentioned wanting to be " the perfect being" which to me meant being the host of the ten tails.

Not sure about flashbacks to be honest, Oro had plenty so far so I don't think his past can reveal more, time will tell.

Sorry again for the late reply.

    2. THANK YOU, AND IT'S ALL GOOD MAN! lol.

I thought the same thing about the name Kaguya as a whole. Could Kishi not think of any other name. We've already had the badass kekkei genkai user Kimimaro Kaguya. Now your telling me that this Goddess figure's first name is Kaguya? I'm not buying it. I understand that manga/anime authors have recycled names in the past but this is just odd.

As far as Orochimaru goes I know that he's received some backstory/flashbacks throughout the series(obviously), but I feel as if he deserves the most heart wrenching one of them all(even Ten Ten). One that'll make you sit back and think "Wow his intentions were somewhat justified." I might be too biased when it comes to villains and they're motives. I mean look how god awful Alduin was from Skyrim. What a joke! Evil for the sake of evil doesn't cut it with me, unless it's done right.

I know I might get shit for that last line considering Obito lost his mind over Rin. At least Obito was a kind hearted Uchiha civilian that just kept having bad day after bad day. Trust me I'm not one of those Obito fan boys, the rest of the internet is/was and now that their "favorite character" is in the spotlight everyone hates it. I never really cared about him being the ten tails, honestly. Also, I know people are entitled to their opinion but why do so many people like Genma Shiranui.

Now I'll apologize for how long that rant was. Needed to Vent-no-Jutsu.

    3. Yeah why couldn't she just have one name and thats all? or no last name? instead she's a kaguya for some unknown reason :/.

Same here when it comes to evil, I love evil when they think they are doing what is right " I killed those children because they would grow up to become killers" is interesting in my mind, doing it for the evulz is not.

Obito isn't so bad in my mind though, mainly cause I am sort of in love myself I can see how he'd go mad, though the girl I like isn't underage ;), as for Genma its a mystery, they loved the examiner for the chuunin exam also and he did nothing.

      Enjoyed your rant, keep'em coming.

    4. Alright cool someone who understands what it takes to be a good villain, you're a smart one Otomo lol.

      "Hey guys!" -Obito
"Oh wow long time no see. How have you been?" -shinobi friends at the get together
"Well, I'm actually the current Ten Tails Jinchuuriki, couldn't be happier." - Obito
"Who's that little girl behind..." -shinobi
"Uhm, uhm. I thought it was bring your daughter to company picnic day." -Obito
      *turns around to Rin*
"If you say one word I've got a bijuu orb with your name on it...FOREVER AND ALWAYS BABE!" -Obito

  3. A comment about Juugo's question, you said "How stupid is Juugo's question?".
I dont think it's stupid at all. In the complete chapter it would not make it logic to create a dumb/stupid Juugo with one sentence. I'd rather say that Kishi is preparing us for the reversing to evil of Team Sasuke (also see C145 P15 - Saseku: Angry Fist: "Just how far have you..."). With this sentence i think that they already have an evil plan.

Also then next image you'll see an exhausted Naruto and then an emotionless Sasuke.

    1. It just seems silly to me, people are being drained left and right and Juugo wonders if the situation has calmed down.

And yeah pretty sure Sasuke has some sort of plan for Naruto, I don't think Hashirama made Sasuke good just changed his plans somehow thats all.

  4. Seriously, the shinobis are running out of option more than ever before. I've never seen them so much in despair and cornered situation anywhere closer like this chapter. I just can't wait for next week to see wether they somehow manage to escape their grim fate (again) or it's game over for them all.
Also i hope we finally know what Madara's trump card is and what is Sasuke's true goal.

  5. I am truly starting to become so confused .. There are so many things that's just so open-book. Kakashi was dying a few chapters ago, there's NO way he can STILL be alive. Hiruzen is back (finally brought Enma out to play) but not Minato's arm. How is the God tree able to get Naruto so easily (Sage Kyubi mode an all), but Bee had about 7 roots at him and was just out of breathe but unharmed. Apparently, the other kages and Orochimaru will forever be "on their way".

In this chapter, I didn't like how it focused on trying to make sense of the new character: The God Tree; the final form of the Jyuubi... Which brings the question, if the God Tree is where chakra came from, why is this the first the god tree was ever mentioned?

Last thing I wanted to know.. If you're a jinchuuriki, and you're tailed beast is "outside of your body".. Do u still "control" it? Does that make you a jinchuuriki? Unless ofcourse u have it under some sort of manipulation.. i.e. Obito/masked man + kyuubi.. but the God tree should be different. Unable to "manipulate". P.s. That's my new name for the jyuubi.

    1. So Many questions to go through, well Hiruzen was hit before Minato's arm so thats why he can regenerate. Kakashi should be back by now since he has taken a long break in the other dimension but I think Kishi will bring him back since he let Hiruzen come back he won't just ignore Kakashi.

this whole fight has lasted maybe an hour real time, it makes sense that Orochimaru will take a while to get there so I am not too annoyed by that.

I wonder who the god was that told humans not to eat from the tree, when did gods start to appear in this series?

Bee lets his beast out but they have some sort of agreement, I think that jinchuriki only allow their tailed beast to go " outside their body" if they control them, when naruto went 8 tails against Pein it was against his will and he lost control, not sure how that applies with Obito but I dont think god can be enslaved with his own techniques.

  6. Well that draws much light. I, and others often overlook the fact that the manga time is not passing equivalent to real time lol We'll see how this pans out.

  7. i liked this chapter! at first i was unsure but when they explained the eye inside of the flower it made perfect sense. i don't think it's strange that they say this at this point.. especially since the only ones who know are very few & they always have people talking in the middle of action. i do wish the translation i read would've been worded a bit better they translate the words too simply. also i wish the woman & her son were nameless or had only first names. i soso hate when authors use the same name for more than one character lol. even though i know they're not related at all since kaguya was just her first name when it was kimimaro's last name it's still annoying. i'm sure there are some people who'll be confused saying 'why is kimimaro related to this lady?' lol i mean there are thousands of names to choose from.. i don't get it >_<

another thing, i don't know why people are wanting sasuke to have some sort of evil master plan lol he hasn't been doing anything to hint at this. he's never been evil & he has rarely gone after anyone who didn't deserve it.. just because he's frustrated & angry because of his situation doesn't mean he's ever been a villain. at least half the point of this manga is for naruto to 'save' sasuke & them to become friends again or at the very least come to some sort of understanding. naruto is just not a manga that would make sense without a hopeful, if not downright happy, ending. sasuke is even more important than being hokage to naruto so it would make no sense for them to just kill each other & at this point it would be stupid of them to even fight (while it might look cool that's not exactly enough of a reason). i think it makes a lot more sense for sasuke to at least let a bit of his hate go & to be on their side now because he knows the truth & got to speak with itachi & the hokages than for him to randomly become evil. while he was told what was possibly true & what itachi's wishes might be.. getting to hear it straight from itachi in reality should make a significant impact on him. sasuke said his guilt over killing itachi was unbearable & that was probably a huge weight lifted off of him. i think it would be much stranger if he had no change of heart after getting a second chance at closure like that.

    1. Man thats a lot to go through, I enjoyed this chapter too, return of hiruzen, some water techniques, lots of story, it was good. I don't know why they named the Mother and Son with the kaguya clan name, its so weird its like you said, make them nameless or something, keep him as the Sage of Six paths is better than a name.

He has hinted actually, he planned to burn the Bijuu down and he shows envy every time Naruto does something impressive, plus earlier he planned on just rescuing Naruto and Juugo from the Juubi instead of everyone and thats another hint that he's hardly the saint people imagine him to be sometimes.

Sasuke being saved is half the story, but that story is him being saved by Naruto, not Hashirama, Sasuke may have some change of heart but he is still shrouded in darkness, Hashirama opened the window but its Naruto's job to show him the light.

      Delete
    2. lol he's definitely not a saint but i don't care about that nor expect him to be. i think almost everything he's done is justifiable or at least i could see where he's coming from. just that he would even bother rescuing jugo & especially naruto is saying something. it's definitely more than most people act like he would ever even consider.
he might think it's better to get rid of the bijuu but that doesn't mean he's evil. he doesn't know them as individuals. though i can't really see sasuke taking on all the bijuu plus naruto at the moment. maybe he'll get a power up & he won't stop or listen to naruto & they'll fight over that.. or maybe he has a plan concerning the bijuu that involves orichimaru or something. as for commenting on naruto's skills he's said much less than i assumed he would. he has commented a few times but nothing unusual. i expected it way more & him to act colder towards naruto & in general so i'm okay with where he's at.
i totally agree that it's not hashirama's but naruto's job to really get him 'to the light' shall we say lol i never said sasuke was perfect right now i'm just saying at least so far it seems like he's made progress.

  8. ONE MORE THING I'D LIKE TO ADD!

I know this is going back a couple chapters, but I really didn't like the fact that Tobirama invented the clone jutsu. I was really hoping that the So6P would've mastered it and used that against the Juubi. That way when/if Naruto and Hagoromo met for the first time he could tell Naruto how shocked he is that he mastered it, given him credit, and maybe even some advice to better the clones(you know typical Naruto moment, but on a whole new level). Idk, just thought about that and it bothered me lol.

    1. I wouldn't be surprised if in a few chapters we find out Tobirama invented Harem jutsu, man if that guy copy-right some of his jutsus he'd be a millionaire.
